Ramadhan Day 1 / Juzz 1

In the beginning ayaat of Surah Baraqah, Allah says:

"And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers." "They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not." "In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie."And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers." [2:8-11]

Here, Allah is describing hypocrisy as a disease. Now, if there was a disease epidemic or a viral which was spreading in your community, wouldn't you immediately go to the Doctors if you had a slight symptom of the disease?

Sure you would. And that is only for a physical disease.

Then why do we differ when it comes to Hypocrisy? Hypocrisy is a spiritual disease of the heart, which causes a person to deter from the truth. In these ayahs, Allah sheds light on two symptoms of Hypocrisy. There are more mentioned in hadith. However the ones mentioned in this ayah are:

1) " They used to tell lies"

2) They cause corruption on the earth

Evaluate yourself. Do you have any of these symptoms? If so, then this is the month of change. To purify your heart from all sins and hypocrisy. Read more about the believers and their qualities that Allah mentions in the Qur'an, and strive to adapt those qualities that Allah loves and not of those that Allah hates such as the qualities of the hypocrites.
